Our Story

Fazilah Shariff

Child and Family Therapist |
Clinical Director

The loss of my father was a defining moment in my life and in my family’s—filled with grief, uncertainty, and overwhelming change. In hindsight, I deeply wished we had reached out for support during that time. Losing a parent is a life-altering experience, and having someone to offer guidance, compassion, and hope would have made all the difference.

That experience became the foundation for YYC Family Therapy—a space where adults, families, youth, and young adults can find support during life’s most difficult seasons. Whether you're navigating a major transition, feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, or seeking a stronger connection with yourself or others, you don’t have to do it alone.

Being a therapist is more than training and techniques. It's a practice rooted in reflection, empathy, and authenticity. I show up with curiosity and care for every person I work with—whether it’s an individual adult seeking clarity, a parent needing support, a young adult finding their voice, or a family learning to heal together.

At YYC Family Therapy, our work is grounded in connection. My goal is to walk alongside you through life’s complexities and help you discover meaningful, sustainable ways to grow and heal.

Our work is grounded in compassion, cultural awareness, and a deep respect for the lived experiences of the families we support. We don’t offer quick fixes or generic advice. Instead, we take time to understand your story, collaborate with you on what matters most, and support sustainable, meaningful change.

Looking Deeper for Lasting Change

We focus on the bigger picture—your relationships, family dynamics, and life context—to help you move forward in ways that truly stick.

LGBTQ2S+ Affirming

We provide an inclusive, safe space for all identities, and celebrate each person’s right to be fully themselves.

Neurodiversity Affirming

We provide a welcoming and understanding space for neurodiverse individuals and families. Whether it’s ADHD or other neurodiverse traits, we honor different ways of thinking and being, and support families in navigating challenges with respect and understanding.

Supporting Youth, Young Adults & Their Families

We focus on the needs and experiences of youth while ensuring the whole family is supported. Our therapy approach empowers teens and young adults to thrive, while also providing guidance and support for parents in their journey.
